I met him down
at the blood drive;

Said use the one on your

sleeve if you

don’t wanna get dizzy.

That twenty five bucks

might buy your kiss tonight

but that’s about it.

Holy hands,  he tells me,

couldn’t make you a sinner.

Run it,  I tell him,

run me like a river.

I’ll circle all around you,
give you what I got, that’s fine
but I let and let it’s suffocating
when I’m quiet all the time.
These bones feel like water.
I want that stone anchored in the sea.
I want to scoop it up and touch
its skin, my own burns
too much these days.

Henry Miller

I wanted a metamorphosis, a change to fish, to leviathan, to destroyer. I wanted the earth to open up, to swallow everything in one engulfing yawn. I wanted to see the city buried fathoms deep in the bosom of the sea. I wanted to sit in a cave and read by candlelight. I wanted that eye extinguished so that I might have a chance to know my own body, my own desires. I wanted to be alone for a thousand years in order to reflect on what I had seen and heard - and in order to forget.

Derek Walcott’s “Hemingway & the Caribbean”

It’s hard to believe we were so hollowed out, so drained, so that we could shine a little harder when the light finally came. -Ada Limon

Why Write

“… The question isn’t: How to survive? The question is: Why survive?

For me the answer is that writing makes my heart pound, my hands flutter. It still makes me hungry and desirous and fearful.

Because I need the honest beautiful grotesquerie of the world, because I want to stay sensitive. I want to wallow and bounce.”

I had nothing and I was still changed. Like a costume, my numbness was taken away. Then hunger was added. --Louise Gluck

HOWL, Ginsberg

...who dreamt and made incarnate gaps in Time & Space through image juxtaposed, and trapped the archangel of the soul between 2 visual images and joined the elemental verbs and set the noun and dash of consciousness together... to recreate the syntax and measure of poor human prose and stand BEFORE YOU SPEECHLESS AND INTELLIGENT AND SHAKING WITH SHAME, rejected yet confessing out the soul to conform to the rhythm of thought in his naked and endless head....
