Losing It, Finding It

Did You Know

I was there waiting

in the parking lot

as you twisted on

their white cot

their bracelet cutting

into your wrist

that I so carefully

used to watch

I was in the hall

when the nurse

rushed to your room

and closed the door

 I heard you crying

like you did

as a child

and I ached

I was beside you

when you lost your faith

when the darkness

inside you stole your eyes

we waited together, in that abyss,

for it to end

I promised I’d find you

but you couldn’t hear me anymore

You retreated from all light

you died

you came back

your eyes shone

and you, at last, believed
